Dreaming of a baby in Islam: meaning
In classical Islamic interpretation a baby is often read as care, responsibility or something growing, rather than simply as a child.
Within this tradition
The dream literature attributed to Ibn Sirin generally does not read a baby literally. The image is connected with something newly begun that cannot yet care for itself.
A boy and a girl are interpreted differently in the classical works, and the reading sometimes inverts what people expect. That is characteristic of this tradition: the image rarely stands for itself.
Carrying a baby is often read as taking on a responsibility. A crying baby, as a concern making itself heard.
The dreamer's circumstances weigh heavily. For someone wishing for a child the dream is read closer to the literal, though the tradition stays careful with certainty.
At the birth of a child in many Muslim families the adhan, the call to prayer, is softly whispered into the baby's right ear, so that the first words it hears are the name of God. On the seventh day there often follows the aqiqa, a sacrifice of gratitude, and the child receives a name. The Quran calls wealth and children the adornment of worldly life, but reminds that lasting good deeds are better. A dream about a baby can in that light be about gratitude and about a trust you have been given.

Does this predict a pregnancy?
The classical interpretation treats this as a possible reading, strongly dependent on who the dreamer is. Certainty is not part of it.
What is the aqiqa?
A sacrifice of gratitude for the birth of a child, often on the seventh day, when the child also receives a name.
What do you do after a bad dream according to Islam?
Seek refuge in God, spit lightly three times to the left, turn over and do not tell the dream around. According to tradition it then cannot harm you.
