Dreaming of falling in the Bible: meaning
In the Christian tradition falling is often read as a question about what you stand on, and what happens when it gives way.
Within this tradition
Falling touches trust in this tradition. The question is rarely how far you fell, but what you built on and whether it held.
The imagery of foundation and rock recurs throughout the Bible, and many believers set a dream of ground giving way beside it. What carries you when things get hard?
Landing softly or being caught is read hopefully: something carries you that does not depend on you.
The tradition explicitly does not read this image as an omen of misfortune. It is a question about trust, and that is not the same as a prediction.
The Bible also knows the fall in a moral sense: pride goes before a fall, says Proverbs. But the Psalms say just as well: though he falls, he shall not be cast down, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. And Psalm 91 promises that angels will bear you up in their hands, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone. A dream about falling can therefore be both a warning against pride and a comfort: whoever falls is not lost. Jesus also tells of two houses, one on rock and one on sand, and only the first stands when the storm comes.
