Dreaming of falling in Islam: meaning
Falling in classical Islamic interpretation is often read as a change in circumstances: something you stood on shifts.
Within this tradition
The classical works generally read falling as a turn in your situation. Falling from a height is linked to loss of position, of certainty, or of something you built on.
The outcome weighs heavily. Falling and landing softly, or getting up unharmed, is read considerably more gently than falling without end. In classical interpretation what matters is often less the fall than what follows it.
Falling into water shifts the meaning toward emotion and surrender, read favourably or unfavourably depending on the clarity of that water.
Falling into a well or pit is connected in some readings with a difficulty you land in, and with the question of who helps you out.
The Quran also speaks of those who stand on the edge: among people are some who worship God on an edge; if good befalls them, they are content, and if a trial strikes them, they turn away. A dream about falling from an edge or a height can in that light also be a question about steadfastness: on what foundation do you stand, and does it hold in a headwind? At the same time the tradition teaches that whoever falls and repents is raised up again.
Common variations
Falling and landing softly
Interpreted considerably more mildly: the turn comes, but the damage stays limited.
Falling into clear water
More favourable than falling into murky water. The state of the water shapes the reading.
Falling into a well
Connected with a difficulty you end up in, and with the question of who helps you out.
Falling from a mountain
Classically: loss of a high position or a plan that fails. A possibility, not a certainty.
Falling and getting up
Recovery after a setback; repentance that raises you up again.

Is falling always unfavourable?
Not always. The classical interpretation looks mainly at what happens after the fall: getting up or staying down changes the reading.
What does falling in a dream mean according to Ibn Sirin?
In the works attributed to him, falling often stands for a change in circumstances. How you land and whether you get up determines whether that change is read as favourable or not.
What do you do after a bad dream according to Islam?
Seek refuge in God, spit lightly three times to the left, turn over and do not tell the dream around. According to tradition it then cannot harm you.
