Dreaming of jewellery in the Bible: meaning
In the Bible a ring is a sign of dignity and restoration. Pharaoh gives Joseph his signet ring, and the father of the prodigal son has a ring put on his hand. A ring in a dream is therefore often read hopefully.
Within this tradition
When Joseph has interpreted Pharaoh's dreams, Pharaoh makes him governor over Egypt. He takes off his signet ring and puts it on Joseph's hand. In those days a signet ring was the sign of authority: whoever wore the ring could speak in the king's name. Receiving a ring in a dream can be read along those lines as trust being given to you, or a responsibility coming your way.
In the parable of the prodigal son, the son returns destitute, expecting to be taken on as a servant. But the father has the best robe brought, sandals, and a ring for his hand. There the ring means: you belong again, as a son. A dream in which you receive a ring after having done wrong can thus be read as restoration and forgiveness.
At the same time the New Testament warns against outward display. Peter writes that true beauty lies not in gold jewellery, but in the inner self. A dream full of gold and jewels can therefore also be a question about where you look for your worth.
As with every dream, the tradition tests this one against Scripture, prayer and people you trust. A dream about a wedding ring is often simply about your relationship.
