Dreaming of getting married in the Bible: meaning
In the Bible marriage is a covenant, and one of the strongest images for the bond between God and people. The Bible begins with a marriage and ends with a wedding. A dream about getting married is therefore often read in the Christian tradition as a question about faithfulness and connection.
Within this tradition
In Genesis man and woman become one flesh. In the prophets God's bond with Israel is described again and again as a marriage, with faithfulness and unfaithfulness, abandonment and return. In the New Testament Paul writes that marriage is an image of Christ and the church, and the book of Revelation ends with the wedding feast of the Lamb. In Christian imagery, getting married is therefore never just a celebration, but a covenant.
The first sign Jesus performs according to the Gospel of John takes place at a wedding in Cana. When the wine runs out, he turns water into wine, and the best wine comes last. A dream about a wedding can be read in that light as joy, abundance and the promise that the best is yet to come.
At the same time the Bible has parables about weddings that warn: about invited guests who do not come, and about bridesmaids who are not ready when the bridegroom arrives. A dream in which you are not on time, or arrive without wedding clothes, can thus be about being ready for what is coming.
As with every dream, discernment applies. A dream about getting married is not an indication of whom you should marry. Such choices belong to prayer, Scripture and conversations with people you trust.
