Dreaming of money in the Bible: meaning
Jesus speaks strikingly often about money, and always with the same question behind it: where is your heart? A dream about money is therefore read in the Christian tradition as a question about what you truly value.
Within this tradition
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says you should not store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. A dream about money, especially about saving, losing or hiding it, is often held up against that text in the tradition: what is your heart attached to, and what would you really miss?
The parable of the talents gives another side. A master entrusts money to his servants; two put it to work, the third buries it out of fear. It is precisely the third who is rebuked. A dream in which you hide or bury money can thus be about gifts you do not use for fear of failing. A dream in which your money multiplies, about using what you have been given.
The widow with her two small coins is also often mentioned. She gave little, but it was all she had, and Jesus praises her above the rich. Giving money away in a dream can thus be an image of devotion, regardless of the amount.
Paul warns that the love of money is a root of much evil. Not money itself, but the heart that clings to it. As with every dream, discernment applies: a dream about money worries is often simply a dream about money worries.
