Dreaming of spiders in wicca: meaning

In wicca and related contemporary pagan paths, the spider is above all the weaver. Her web stands for connection: everything touches everything. A spider dream is therefore read more as an invitation than as a threat.

Within this tradition

The spider makes something larger than herself out of her own body. That makes her, in many contemporary pagan practices, an image of creativity and of weaving your own life. The Greek myth of Arachne, the weaver who was turned into a spider, is often cited too: craftsmanship, pride, and what happens when you overestimate your gift.

The web itself is read as the network of connections you live in. A tremor at one end can be felt at the other. Dreams about a glistening, intact web are therefore often about coherence and the sense of being in your place. A broken or dusty web points more to connections you have let slide.

Within shadow work the fear has its own place. Someone who is disgusted by the spider in the dream is invited to ask where that aversion comes from. Often it is then less about the spider than about something in yourself that is patient, quiet or waiting, and that you would rather not see.

Many practitioners record a spider dream in their dream journal with the moon phase alongside it. Under a waxing moon, weaving something new fits; under a waning moon, clearing away old threads.

Common variations

A glistening, intact web

Coherence and connection: you see how things hang together.

A spider coming towards you

In shadow work an invitation to look at what repels you, rather than swatting it away.

A broken web

Connections that need attention, or a plan that needs to be rewoven.

A spider on your altar or in your working space

Often read as a sign to give attention to what you are weaving in your practice, and whether you still have patience for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a spider a favourable sign in wicca?

Often, yes. The spider stands for creativity, patience and connection. Fear in the dream is read as a way into shadow work, not as an omen.

What do I do with a recurring spider dream?

Write it down with the moon phase alongside it. In wicca, repetition is seen as a conversation that is not yet finished.
