Dreaming of a cat in wicca: meaning
In wicca the cat is an animal of intuition, the night and the moon. She is the classic companion of the witch, and a cat in a dream is therefore often read as your own inner knowing making itself felt.
Within this tradition
The image of the witch and her cat is centuries old. During the witch trials the cat was seen as a familiar, a spirit in animal form serving the witch, and that image was used to accuse women. Contemporary pagan paths have reclaimed it. There the cat stands for intuition, independence and the ability to see in the dark.
In the mythology many practitioners draw on, the cat appears more often. The Egyptian goddess Bastet was depicted as a cat or with a cat's head and protected house and hearth. The Norse goddess Freyja, according to the stories, rode in a chariot drawn by cats. Both connect the cat with protection, love and feminine strength.
A cat that calmly looks at you or comes towards you in a dream is therefore often read as intuition announcing itself: something you already know but have not yet said. A cat that will not let itself be touched can point to a side of yourself you are trying to tame while it wants to be free.
Within shadow work a hostile cat receives attention. Someone scratched in the dream can ask which boundary was crossed, and by whom. Noting the moon phase helps: in many practices cats are connected with the moon and her cycle.
