Dreaming of mice and rats in wicca: meaning
Wicca looks at mouse and rat with less disgust than most traditions. Alongside the gnawing and hiding, many practitioners also see in these animals survival, resourcefulness and attention to small things.
Within this tradition
In many contemporary pagan practices an animal in a dream is read not only by what it does, but also by what it can do. A mouse sees what others overlook, fits through the smallest opening and survives on crumbs. A rat is one of the cleverest and most adaptable animals there is. A dream about these animals can therefore also be an invitation to pay attention to details, or to be resourceful in a situation that feels tight.
Wicca also keeps the shadow side in view. Something gnawing is read in shadow work as a thought or feeling you push away that keeps working on you: a grudge, a sense of guilt, a small fear that grows when you do not look at it. The disgust you feel in the dream is then a way in. Why does this repel you, and what does that say about what you would rather not see in yourself?
The place in the dream matters. Rodents in the cellar point to the unconscious, to what lies beneath the surface. In the kitchen, to care and nourishment: what is eating away at what you give yourself or others?
Many practitioners write such a dream in their dream journal with the moon phase. Under a waning moon, clearing out and closing off what gnaws at you fits; under a waxing moon, rather the resourcefulness of the animal.
