Dreaming of your hair in Islam: meaning
In classical Islamic interpretation hair often stands for possessions, honour and a long life. Shaving or shortening the hair during the pilgrimage, on the other hand, is read favourably, as safety and the fulfilment of a promise.
Within this tradition
In the works attributed to Ibn Sirin, a man's hair is often read as his possessions, his standing or the length of his life. Thick, well-kept hair is then favourable; hair that thins or falls out can point to worries about possessions or status. For a woman, long, well-kept hair is often read as honour and beauty. As always in tabir, the reading depends strongly on who the dreamer is and what is going on in their life.
Shaving the head has a special place. In the Quran the believers are promised that they will enter the Sacred Mosque in safety, with heads shaved or hair shortened, without fear. Shaving or shortening the hair belongs to completing the hajj and the umrah. Someone who dreams of shaving their head in that context, or with that intention, is therefore read favourably: a promise being fulfilled, safety, a debt being repaid.
Grey hair is linked in the tradition with dignity. According to a tradition, grey hair is a light for the believer. A dream in which you go grey therefore need not be read as loss, but can also stand for wisdom and maturity.
Someone who loses their hair in an anxious dream can also count that dream among what occupies their own soul. Worries about appearance or ageing are human, and the tradition does not ask you to look for a message in them.
