Dreaming of moving house in Islam: meaning

In classical Islamic dream interpretation a house often stands for the dreamer, their family or their state. Moving to a more spacious, beautiful house is read as an improvement: more room in your life, relief after difficulty, or a better state of faith.

Within this tradition

In the works attributed to Ibn Sirin, a house is an image of someone's life and circumstances. A spacious house stands for a spacious state; a narrow or dilapidated house for worries or a hard period. Moving from one house to another is therefore read as a change of state, and the direction counts.

From a small, dark house to a large, light house counts as favourable: relief, provision, or a worry giving way. The other way around is read more cautiously, as a period of limitation. Building or moving into a new house can also be read as a marriage or a growing family.

The tradition also knows a spiritual layer. The Prophet asked in a supplication for a spacious home, and the Quran speaks of the hijra, leaving a place for God's sake. Someone who moves in a dream to a place that feels good can read it as a movement towards something better, inwardly too.

As always in tabir, the dreamer counts. Someone really about to move often simply dreams of boxes, keys and the new house. Such a dream comes from what occupies the soul.
