Dreaming of keys in Islam: meaning
The Quran says that the keys of the unseen are with God: only He knows them. In classical dream interpretation keys stand for authority, knowledge and provision, and a door that opens for relief and a solution.
Within this tradition
In the chapter of the Cattle it says: with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them but He. That text gives keys a deep charge in the Islamic tradition. What is hidden, the future, destiny, the outcome of a worry, lies in God's hand. In many readings a dream about keys recalls that.
In the works attributed to Ibn Sirin, keys often stand for authority, knowledge or provision. Receiving a key is read as a position or responsibility entrusted to you, or as knowledge you acquire. Opening a door with a key counts as favourable: a solution to a problem, relief after difficulty, or a wish coming true.
Losing keys is read more cautiously, as an opportunity slipping away or something you give out of your hands. A key breaking, as a plan stalling.
As always in tabir, the dreamer counts. Someone who has to make a decision and dreams of keys is not advised in the tradition to build on the dream, but to pray istikhara: the prayer for guidance.
