Dreaming of police in Chinese dream interpretation: meaning
In China Bao Gong, Judge Bao, is the symbol of incorruptible justice: an official of the Song dynasty who according to the stories judged without respect of persons. In the folk interpretation around the dream book of Zhou Gong officials and holders of authority in a dream are often read as authority, recognition or a matter being set right.
Within this tradition
Bao Zheng lived in the eleventh century and became a legend. In countless operas, stories and television series he is the judge with the black face and the crescent moon on his forehead, who condemns rich and powerful criminals as strictly as ordinary people. According to folk stories he judged the human world by day and the underworld by night. He is the image of justice that cannot be bought.
In folk interpretation officials, judges and guards in a dream often stand for authority and rank. Meeting an official can be read as recognition or promotion. Being taken away by an official or officer, as a matter coming to light, sometimes favourably, sometimes as a warning. Standing before a judge, like Bao Gong, can be read as a situation in which honesty is rewarded.
In some dream books a dream about being arrested is even read in reverse: as a sign that you will get a position, because, like an official, you become involved with authority. That shows how loose such readings are.
Old dream books and folk stories are folk interpretation, not fixed rules, and are often used with a smile.
