Dreaming of vomiting in Islam: meaning
In classical Islamic dream interpretation vomiting is often read as giving back: repentance, or returning something that was not yours. Whoever vomits easily and feels better afterwards leaves a sin or worry behind, according to that reading.
Within this tradition
In the works attributed to Ibn Sirin, a distinction is made. Whoever vomits voluntarily and without difficulty in a dream would show repentance, admit a fault or give back something that did not belong to them, such as money or another's right. Whoever vomits against their will and with difficulty would have to give something up under pressure. What comes out counts too: food you ate earlier can be read as something from the past returning.
A well-known tradition uses the image very directly: whoever takes back a gift after giving it is like a dog returning to its vomit. That is why a dream about going back to what you have vomited can be read as relapsing into something you had given up.
In fiqh, Islamic law, vomiting is also relevant to fasting: deliberate vomiting breaks the fast, unintentional vomiting does not. Whoever dreams during Ramadan that they vomit has not broken their fast; a dream is not an act.
As always in tabir the dreamer counts. Someone who is ill or nauseous simply dreams about it, and such a dream comes from the body.
