Dreaming of blood in Islam: meaning
In classical Islamic interpretation blood is often linked with a lie or with possessions not obtained cleanly. The story of Joseph, whose brothers showed his shirt stained with false blood, resonates in this.
Within this tradition
In the chapter of Yusuf, Joseph's brothers bring his shirt to their father Jacob, stained with false blood, and say a wolf has torn him apart. Jacob does not believe them. That image of blood carrying a lie is deeply rooted in classical interpretation. Blood on your clothes is therefore often read as a lie: something said about you, or something you say yourself that sticks to you.
In the works attributed to Ibn Sirin, blood also stands for money or possessions, especially possessions not obtained in a clean way. Someone who dreams they are standing or walking in blood is then urged to look at where what they have comes from. Sin can also be linked with blood: something sticking to your hands until you put it right.
Not all blood is read heavily. Blood flowing from the body without pain can, according to some interpreters, even be favourable: something that may leave, as with the bloodletting once considered medicine. The circumstances of the dream and the dreamer decide what fits.
And as always in tabir, an anxious, confused dream full of blood belongs rather to hulm. It need not be interpreted. The advice is to seek protection with God and not to tell the dream around.
Common variations
Blood on your clothing
Classically linked with a lie, after Joseph's shirt. The question is whether that lie is about you or comes from you.
Drinking blood
Read unfavourably by classical interpreters, as taking something that is not yours.
Blood flowing away painlessly
Can be favourable: something that may leave, a burden that eases.
Someone else's blood on you
Often read as involvement in something another person caused, or as an accusation coming your way.

Does blood in a dream stand for a lie?
That is a frequently mentioned classical reading, based on the story of Joseph. It remains a possible interpretation, not a certainty.
Is blood always unfavourable in Islamic interpretation?
No. Blood that flows away painlessly can even be read as relief. Context and the dreamer decide the reading.
