Dreaming of water in Judaism: meaning
In the Jewish tradition water is often an image of peace, life and Torah. The Talmud names a river as one of three dream images that point to peace. A dream about flowing water is therefore usually read favourably.
Within this tradition
In the Talmud tractate Berakhot there is a short list: three things point to peace in a dream, a river, a bird and a pot. The rabbis connect the river with a verse from Isaiah, in which God promises to extend peace like a river. Someone who dreams of a calmly flowing river can feel strengthened in that tradition.
Water also has a deeper layer in Judaism. In rabbinic literature the Torah is often compared to water: just as water flows from high to low, knowledge comes to whoever is humble. A dream in which you drink clear water can be read in that light as a longing to learn or for insight.
And water cleanses. The mikveh, the ritual bath, marks transitions: conversion, marriage, purity. A dream about immersion can thus be about a new beginning or about closing a period.
At the same time the rabbis are sober. A person often sees in a dream what comes from the thoughts of their own heart. Someone who was busy with water during the day dreams about it too. And someone who had a disturbing dream about water, for example a flood, can according to the tradition tell it to three people who wish them well, so that it turns for the good.

Is dreaming of water favourable in Judaism?
Often, yes. The Talmud names a river as an image of peace. Disturbing water dreams can be turned for the good with hatavat chalom.
Why is the Torah compared to water?
Because just as water flows to the lowest point, knowledge according to the rabbis comes to whoever is humble. Water also gives life, as the Torah does.
