Dreaming of your period in Hinduism: meaning
In Hinduism two sides exist alongside each other. In many families restrictions apply during menstruation, such as not going to the temple. At the same time the Kamakhya temple in Assam celebrates the goddess's menstruation every year, during the Ambubachi Mela. A dream about menstruation can therefore be read in Hindu readings both as rest and as divine fertility.
Within this tradition
The Kamakhya temple near Guwahati is one of the most important shakti pithas, sacred places of the goddess. According to tradition the yoni of the goddess Sati fell there. Every year in June the temple closes for three days, because the goddess then menstruates, and during the Ambubachi Mela hundreds of thousands of pilgrims come to celebrate her fertility and creative power. Menstruation there is seen as a sign of the creative force of shakti, divine feminine energy.
At the same time many Hindu families observe rest during menstruation: no cooking, no puja, sometimes sleeping apart. Some see that as impurity, others rather as a time of rest and withdrawal. Those customs are widely debated within Hinduism, and many women make their own choices about them.
Along those lines a dream about menstruation can be read as an invitation to rest and withdrawal, or as an image of creative power and fertility. A dream about a goddess, such as Kamakhya or Durga, together with menstruation, is often read favourably: shakti showing herself.
Whoever is afraid in a dream of being impure can ask which views of her body she has been given, and which she wants to carry herself. With physical complaints you see a doctor.
