Dreaming of shoes in Islam: meaning

In the Quran God says to Moses: take off your sandals, for you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa. In classical dream interpretation shoes can also stand for a partner, a journey or protection, depending on what happens to them in the dream.

Within this tradition

The story in the chapter Ta Ha is well known: Moses sees a fire, goes towards it, and hears: I am your Lord, take off your sandals. Taking off your shoes thus becomes an image of reverence and of leaving behind everything that stands between you and the holy. To this day Muslims take off their shoes before entering a mosque.

In the works attributed to Ibn Sirin, shoes often stand for a partner or for a journey. New, well-fitting shoes are read as a good marriage or a prosperous journey. A shoe that gets lost or breaks is read more cautiously, for example as tension in a relationship or a journey that does not happen. Such readings are possibilities, not predictions.

Walking barefoot can point to worries in classical interpretation, but also to humility, especially when it happens in a clean or holy place. Someone who takes off their shoes at a mosque in a dream can read it as a call to reverence and reflection.

As always in tabir, the state of the dreamer counts. Someone about to marry or travel who dreams of shoes is often simply dreaming about what occupies them.
