Dreaming of a dog in Winti: meaning

Within this tradition

In practitioners' answers one reading keeps returning: a dog that bites you stands for a spiritual blockage. Something or someone is closing your path, and you are not moving forward where you should be. The advice that goes with it is a bath from a duman, a healer, to clear the way again.

That is not a prediction that something bad will happen, but a way of reading a feeling many people know: running into walls everywhere without knowing why. The dream gives that feeling an image, and the tradition gives it a response.

Dogs also have a place in the night in Winti. In stories the howling of dogs after midnight is linked with Leba, the winti of the street and the crossroads, who goes about at that hour. Leba is a cleanser and gatekeeper, so such an image need not be threatening.

Within the tradition a biting dog is sometimes also named as one of the images through which wisi, harm from outside, can show itself. Dreamkin never states that as fact. A dream can be read that way, but only a luku with someone you trust can confirm or refute it. A dog dream often turns out to be about something quite different.
