Dreaming of snow in the Bible: meaning
In the Bible snow is the image of cleansing and forgiveness. God says through Isaiah: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow. And David prays in Psalm 51: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. A snow dream is therefore often read hopefully in the Christian tradition.
Within this tradition
Psalm 51 is David's prayer after his wrongdoing with Bathsheba. It is one of the most honest penitential prayers in the Bible: David hides nothing, but asks God to cleanse him. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow; create in me a clean heart. Isaiah 1 uses the same image in God's name: come, let us reason together; though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.
In that light a dream about fresh, white snow can be read as forgiveness and a new beginning: what weighed on you may be let go. Someone who feels guilty about something, and dreams of a landscape turning white, can find comfort in that.
Snow also appears at the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain, where his clothes become white as snow, and in Revelation, where the hair of the glorified Christ is white as snow. White there stands for holiness and light. A dream with a radiant white snowy landscape can thus also be read as a glimpse of God's holiness.
In Job God asks: have you entered the storehouses of the snow? Snow there is an image of God's care for creation. As always, the tradition tests a dream against prayer, Scripture and people you trust.
