Dreaming of snow
Snow in a dream is often about purity, silence and a clean slate, but also about cold, standstill and distance. Fresh snow feels like a new beginning; a snowstorm like something that overwhelms and isolates you.

Snow transforms a landscape in one night. Everything becomes white, quiet and clean, and yesterday's tracks disappear. That is why snow in dreams often stands for a new beginning, purification or rest. For someone who grew up in Suriname, snow can also stand for the unknown, or for life in the Netherlands.
Fresh snow in which you are the first to walk is usually read favourably: a clean slate, a chance to start again. Snow falling softly can stand for peace and quiet after a busy time. Playing in the snow often evokes memories of childhood and carefreeness.
Opposite that stands the cold of snow. A snowstorm can be about something that overwhelms and isolates you: a crisis, or emotions that freeze you. Being stuck in the snow often points to standstill, the feeling that you are not moving forward. Melting snow is then read hopefully: what was stuck starts moving again. Dirty or grey snow can stand for something pure that has become tainted.
Traditions use snow above all as an image of cleansing. The Bible promises that sins will become white as snow. In an Islamic prayer the Prophet asks to be washed with water, snow and hail. And in Buddhism melting snow shows impermanence.
What it means in each tradition
The same dream. 3 traditions. 3 different ways of seeing it.
Christian
In the Bible snow is the image of cleansing and forgiveness. God says through Isaiah: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow. And David prays in Psalm 51: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. A snow dream is therefore often read hopefully in the Christian tradition.

In a well-known supplication that according to tradition the Prophet said at the start of prayer, he asks God to wash him of his sins with water, snow and hail. Snow therefore stands for cleansing in the Islamic tradition, and is often read favourably in classical dream interpretation.

In Buddhism snow shows impermanence: it falls, covers everything and melts again. According to tradition the Tibetan yogi Milarepa sat snowed in for months in a cave and kept meditating. A snow dream can be about silence, letting go and impermanence in Buddhist readings.
