Bakru
In Winti a bakru is a lower spirit: a small figure with a big head, sometimes from the forest, sometimes, according to stories, made or bought by people to do harm. Dreamkin describes how bakru are read in dreams, but never establishes that a bakru is involved.

What is a bakru?
In Surinamese stories a bakru is a small figure with a big head and sometimes red eyes. There are bakru that belong to the forest, as lower spirits, and there are stories of kartiki bakru: bakru said to be made or bought by people, often to harm someone else, or in exchange for money.
On the forum the bakru has a board of its own with stories, and there you can see how deeply the image runs in Surinamese culture. At the same time it is a subject where fear quickly grows large. That is why caution matters here.
Bakru in dreams
Practitioners mention a few dream images that can be read in the direction of a bakru: small children or dwarfs asking for food, or small figures at the door. About such figures one practitioner says that feeding them can come back a thousandfold, but that they may also have come to do harm. The advice is then: have it read before you do anything.
A heavier image, such as three dead babies stuck together, was read by one practitioner as a taitai: a bakru sent with a task. Such readings belong with someone who has knowledge, not with a conclusion of your own.
Dealing with it wisely
Dreamkin never establishes that someone is doing something to you. Within Winti a dream can be read in the direction of a bakru or wisi, but only a luku with someone you trust can confirm or refute that. Many frightening dreams turn out to be about something quite different: tension, grief or fatigue.
Someone who stays anxious after such a dream, or feels that someone wishes them harm, also deserves ordinary support. Talk about it with people you trust, and seek professional help if the fear starts to shape your days.
