Dreaming of a scorpion
A scorpion in a dream is often about hidden danger: something or someone that seems small and quiet, but can sting. It can also be about your own sharp side, words that hurt, or the fear of being hurt.
Interpret your own dreamWhy you dream about this
A scorpion hides under stones, in shoes and in dark corners, and is only noticed when it is too late. That quality makes it an image of hidden danger in dreams. Many people who dream of a scorpion have the feeling that something threatens that they cannot quite see.
Being stung by a scorpion is often about being hurt, often by someone close: gossip, a betrayal, a remark that stings. A scorpion in your bed or clothes can point to threat in your immediate surroundings, in a relationship or your home. Killing or knocking away a scorpion is usually read favourably: you see through something and make it harmless.
The scorpion can also be about yourself. Perhaps you said something sharp, or you notice that you defend yourself by stinging back. Those who think astrologically also connect the scorpion with the sign of Scorpio, with intensity, passion and transformation.
Traditions are strikingly unanimous about the scorpion as an image of harm that stings, but also about protection against it. In Islam a companion healed someone who had been stung with the Fatiha. Jesus gave his disciples power to tread on scorpions. And in China the scorpion belongs to the five poisonous creatures one protects oneself against.
What it means in each tradition
The same dream. 3 traditions. 3 different ways of seeing it.
Islamic
In classical Islamic dream interpretation a scorpion often stands for an enemy who slanders: someone who seems weak, but stings with words. At the same time the tradition knows a famous story in which the Fatiha heals someone stung by a scorpion.

Jesus tells his disciples: I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and nothing shall hurt you. In the Christian tradition the scorpion therefore stands for harm that stings, but also for the promise that it will not ultimately overcome you.

In China the scorpion belongs to the wudu, the five poisonous creatures: scorpion, snake, centipede, toad and lizard or spider. Around the Dragon Boat Festival people protect themselves against them. A scorpion in a dream is therefore often read in folk interpretation as harm to ward off, but also as strength you can use.
