Bigisma

The elders and ancestors, who often speak in dreams in Winti.

Bigisma are the elders, and in a wider sense the ancestors. In Winti they often speak in dreams: to guide, to warn or to give an instruction.

A late mother, father or grandmother who looks at you in a dream, gives you something or stays silent is often read as bigisma. A serious look then means they know the answer; a gift, such as food or nuts, counts as blessing and care. A bigisma poku is a celebration or tribute for the elders.
