Tapu is spiritual protection. There is tapu for the body, skin tapu, which is rubbed on, drunk or worn as a ring or belt. There is tapu for the house, ini oso tapu, and for the yard, dyari tapu. A waktiman is a protective obia that watches over a house or yard.
In Winti readings tapu is named with dreams about attacks, bites, doors opening by themselves or unsettled dead. Tapu yu sking, protect your body, is advice that often recurs.
