Fodu
Snake spirits of the earth, also called papa winti.
Fodu, or papa winti, are powerful snake spirits of the earth, bound to plantations, yards and villages. The dagwe, the boa, is most strongly linked with them.
That is why in Winti a snake living on family land is rarely seen as a coincidence. Practitioners advise treating such a place with respect: not cutting trees at random, not urinating in the yard. A killed snake with a fodu is said to become a kiri fodu that follows the family for a long time.
